class A collection of sets, in particular a collection of sets which is not itself a set, in which case it is referred to as a proper class. There is no ‘set of all sets', and so this is a proper class. In Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory, classes are treated informally, but Von Neumann formally integrated classes into his set theory.
