单词 Nash, John Forbes
释义

Nash, John Forbes

(1928–2015) American mathematician who won the Nobel Prize for Economic Science in 1994 for his work in non-cooperative game theory which was published in 1950. Despite the importance of this work in economics and in the diplomatic and military strategy to which Nash applied it for the RAND Corporation during the Cold War, Nash viewed himself as a pure mathematician. He made important contributions in real algebraic geometry, the theory of Riemannian manifolds and particularly on parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations. He was thought to be in contention for the Fields Medal in 1958 but was not successful. By the time the 1962 awards were being made, Nash's long battle with schizophrenia was dominating his life. The book and film A Beautiful Mind catalogued the story of his brilliance and his struggle with mental illness. He was awarded the Abel Prize in 2015 along with Louis Nirenberg.
