Gardner, Martin (1914–2010) Prolific American writer of popular and recreational mathematics and science. He was an authority on the work of Lewis Carroll and helped popularize the art of M. C. Escher. Through his column Mathematical Games he did much to introduce the wider public and, commonly, mathematicians to a diverse array of mathematical topics.
