non-parametric methods Methods of inference that make no assumptions about the underlying population distribution. Non-parametric tests are often concerned with hypotheses about the median of a population and use the ranks of the observations. Examples of non-parametric tests are the Wilcoxon rank-sum test, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and the sign test.
