Royal Institution (RI) Founded in 1799, the Royal Institution is dedicated to scientific education and public engagement with science. It is famous for the RI Christmas lectures, which were begun by Michael Faraday in 1825. Each year, the RI runs series of masterclasses and summer schools on a range of scientific subjects for schoolchildren.
