run (in statistics) A sequence of consecutive observations from a sample that share a specified property. Often the observations have either one or other of two properties A and B. For example, A may be ‘above the median' and B ‘below the median'. If the sequence of observations then gives the sequence AABAAABBAB, for example, the number of runs equals 6. This statistic is used in some non-parametric methods.
