sliding–toppling condition Where a rigid body is at rest on a plane, whether it will slide or topple first can be determined by calculating what the minimum force is for it to topple, assuming it does not slide, and then calculating what the minimum force is for it to slide, assuming it does not topple first. The lower of these two minima will tell which happens first.
