Smith, Adrian Frederick Melhuish (1946– ) British statistician who conducted the Inquiry into Post-14 Mathematics Education for the UK Secretary of State for Education and Skills in 2003–04. He has been President of the Royal Statistical Society and in 2008 was appointed as Director General for Science and Research in the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. He became the director of the Alan Turing Institute in 2018.
