statement In logic, the fundamental property of a statement is that it makes sense and is either true or false. For example, ‘there is a real number x such that x2 = 2' makes sense and is true; the statement ‘if x and y are positive integers then x−y is a positive integer' makes sense and is false. The liar paradox is not a statement, though, as it cannot be meaningful true or false.
