Conway, John Horton (1937–2020) English mathematician, perhaps best remembered for his Game of Life, a cellular automated zero-player game, but who made important contributions diversely in number theory, game theory, group theory, and knot theory. He also published a good deal on recreational mathematics and frequently collaborated with Martin Gardner.
