Zeeman, Sir Erik Christopher (1925–2016) British mathematician who founded the mathematics department at the University of Warwick in 1964 and whose work in topology and catastrophe theory found wide applicability in areas as diverse as physics, the social sciences, and economics. The LMS medal for the promotion of mathematics is named in his honour.
