frequency (in statistics) The number of times that a particular value occurs as an observation. In grouped data, the frequency corresponding to a group is the number of observations that lie in that group. If numerical data are grouped by means of class intervals, the frequency corresponding to a class interval is the number of observations in that interval. See also relative frequency.
