Hoyles, Dame Celia

(1946– ) British mathematics educationalist who was appointed as the government's Chief Adviser for Mathematics following the publication of Adrian Smith's inquiry into the state of post‐14 mathematics education in the UK, and subsequently the Director of the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics">National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM). In 2004 she was chosen as the first recipient of the Hans Freudenthal medal for her research.
