Noether, Amalie (‘Emmy') (1882–1935) German mathematician, known for her highly creative work in the theory of rings, non-commutative algebras, and other areas of abstract algebra. She was responsible for the growth of an active group of algebraists at Göttingen in the period up to 1933.
