International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) A large academic conference, usually occurring every 4 years, with invited talks from the world's foremost research mathematicians and at which the Fields Medals are awarded. The first ICM was held in Zurich in 1897, and Hilbert famously presented 10 of his 23 unsolved problems at the 1900 congress in Paris.
