elliptic surface
Definition 1.
Let be afield and let be a smooth projective curve defined over thefield and has genus . The function field of will bedenoted by . An elliptic surface over the curve is, by definition, a two-dimensional projective variety togetherwith:
- 1.
A morphism such that for all butfinitely many points , the fiber is a non-singular curve of genus ,
- 2.
A section to (the zero section) .
With this definition, may be regarded as an elliptic curve over thefield .
Example 1.
The surface is an elliptic surface over the curve . It may be regarded as an elliptic curve over the function field .
