topological vector space A space which is both a topological space and a vector space in which addition and scalar multiplication are continuous. These spaces are the most general spaces used in functional analysis. They include all normed vector spaces, so, in particular, Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces are examples of topological vector spaces.
