dimensions Many physical quantities can be described in terms of the basic dimensions of mass M, length L, and time T, using positive and negative indices. For example, the following have the dimensions given: area, L2; velocity, LT−1; force, MLT−2; linear momentum, MLT−1; energy, ML2T−2; and power, ML2T−3. Temperature is another dimension, and there are others (e.g. electric current or luminous intensity) within the SI units system, but these are more relevant to physics than mathematics.
