Feynman, Richard Phillips (1918–88) American mathematician and theoretical physicist who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1965 for work on quantum electrodynamics. He worked on the atomic bomb project during the Second World War, when he was already regarded as one of the leading scientists in the field at only 23. He enjoyed considerable success as an author where his intuitive grasp of fundamental physical principles allowed him to communicate to a broad audience.
