Gosset, William Sealy (1876–1937) British industrial scientist and statistician best known for his discovery of the t‐distribution. His statistical work was motivated by his research for the brewery firm that he was with all his life. The most important of his papers, which were published under the pseudonym ‘Student', appeared in 1908.
