Halley, Edmond (1656–1742) Published a catalogue of the stars in the southern hemisphere in 1687 and studied planetary orbits correctly predicting the return of Halley's comet in 1758. Published the Breslau Table of Mortality in 1693 which was the foundation of actuarial science for calculating life insurance premiums and annuities.
