Nightingale, Florence (1820–1910) Known to many as the ‘Lady with the Lamp', amongst statisticians she is remembered for her pioneering work on data analysis, the representation of data, and the standardizing of data recording; the implementation of her findings in hospitals; and being the founder of modern nursing. International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12 May, her birthday.
