holonomic In a mechanical system, with generalized coordinates q1, q2, …, qn, a holonomic constraint is one involving only q1, q2, …, qn and time t. For example, such a constraint would be z = r2 for a particle at (r,θ,z) moving on the surface of a paraboloid. See Lagrange's equations.
