Ernst Lindelöf
Ernst Leonard Lindelöf (1870-3-7 à 1946-6-3) was born inHelsinki, Finland. Professor of mathematics in University ofHelsinki 1903–1938. was thefounder of the internationally noted Finnish school of functiontheory. Rolf Nevanlinna and Lars Ahlfors were his pupils. Moststudies of were on the complexanalysis, theory of differential equations (e.g.Picard–Lindelöf theorem
(http://planetmath.org/picardstheorem-0)) andtopology (see e.g. Lindelöf space). One of them,“Mémoire sur la théorie des fonctions entières degenre fini” (1902) substantially the theory of entire functions
; also“Mémoire sur certaines inégalités dans la théoriedes fonctions monogènes (1908), containing a new simpleproof of Picard’s theorem (http://planetmath.org/PicardsTheorem), wasimportant. has made excellenttextbooks of mathematics: “Le calcul des résidus et sesapplications à la théorie des fonctions” (1905), “Johdatus korkeampaan analyysiin” (‘Introduction to the higheranalysis
’; 1912), “Differentiali- ja integralilasku jasen sovellutukset I–IV” (‘Differential and integral calculuswith applications I–IV’; 1928–1946).
