zero-dimensional (of a space) Describing a topological space which has a basis of sets that are clopen. Every discrete space is zero-dimensional; by contrast, the set of rational numbers is zero-dimensional but does not have isolated points. Being zero-dimensional is a hereditary property of a space. See dimension (topology).
