ruled surface A surface that can be traced out by a moving straight line; in other words, every point of the surface lies on a straight line lying wholly in the surface. Examples are a (double) cone, a cylinder, a hyperboloid of one sheet, a hyperbolic paraboloid, and a helicoid.
