Zorn's lemma An equivalent statement to the axiom of choice which is often more conveniently applicable in some areas of mathematics. The lemma states that: a partially ordered set S, where every totally ordered subset has an upper bound, has a maximal element. Zorn's lemma can be used to show that any vector space has a basis.
