compound statement A statement formed from simple statements by the use of words such as ‘and', ‘or', ‘not', or ‘implies' or their corresponding symbols. The simple statements involved are the components of the compound statement. For example, (p∧q) ∨ (¬r) is a compound statement built up from the components p, q and r.
