connected (of a space) A topological space (or metric space) is connected if it cannot be partitioned into two non-empty open subsets (see open set). The continuous image (see continuous function) of a connected space is connected. The product of two connected spaces is connected. Path-connected spaces are connected, but the converse is not true.
