game (game theory) An attempt to represent and analyse mathematically some conflict situation in which the outcome depends on the choices made by the opponents. The applications of game theory are not primarily concerned with recreational activities. Games may be used to investigate problems in business, personal relationships, military manoeuvres, and other areas involving decision‐making. One particular kind of game for which the theory has been well developed is the matrix game.
